Building Alliances: Director Responsibilities
Building Alliances - Director Responsibilities
This blog serves as a refresher for my own responsibilities as the Director of my group. Due to the loss of the original research lead, and them no longer being on the course, I began to go through the work I had assigned myself and see what took priority. I knew since the beginning of the project that I was going to help where it was most needed alongside doing my own work, and that's what I was going to do here, but to make room for myself to do quality research, I lightened my workload in other areas.
Starting with director-specific responsibilities, such as advising my group and setting different tasks to my different members, these weren't going to change. This is because as the director, it is my job to still do these things. I also let my group know this before the first presentation pitch in person, but I also let them know within the group server afterwards.
With 2D responsibilities, I plan to do less than originally intended. This is because two members of the group - Katie and Rosie are already focusing heavily on 2D work, (with Katie leaning into research too) including but not limited to thumbnails and concept work. With this said, I still plan to do my own thumbnails, concept work and UI design ideas, but it will not make up a majority of the work of the group.
In terms of 3D responsibilities, I cut down on these too.
These were my original goals, But with the changes to the group structure now, I no longer plan to model the fin whale, and only want to model one "landmark" building of Nottingham. This is because I don't want to sacrifice the quality of my models for quantity, nor do I want the quality and depth of my research to be lacking for it. Therefore, I feel these changes are necessary. Now in terms of research, there is a lot I plan to do. Firstly, is to go over everything from the presentation pitch so that I can strengthen what we have already done. This includes researching what specific types of whales, wildlife, fauna and flora would make the most sense within a flooded city environment in England.
After that I plan to research more into what structural damage would look like long-term after a flood. I don't plan to implement this into a 3D model (Since I want the "landmark" building to be structurally intact, and serve as a safe zone for the player), but I want to draw concepts based on it.
As the director, I have also asked Katie to begin researching things she has been working on extensively (at this moment it is coral) so that we have more to show for our pitch presentation.
The list of research topics so far for myself is:
Strengthening what we already have in the presentation
Structural damage
Flooding effects
What would make sense in the setting (Scavenging for food, supplies etc.)
All of these could be subject to change, but as of right now I will work through them part by part and add/remove things if I feel it is necessary. Additionally, any member of my group is welcome to research the same topics as me. This is because in the pitch we can add everything we have researched, even if some of it overlaps we can remove it. On top of that, other members may take an entirely different approach to research, finding things about topics that others or myself wouldn't. This way we should end up with a lot of research being completed.
From this point on I also want to play a more active role in assisting where I can. As the director I should also be getting involved in the tasks I am setting for other people, and that is what I aim to accomplish from this point on with this blog as a guide.
