Industry Practice: Mask Studio Logo

Industry Practice - Mask Studios Logo and Icons

Before we present the pitch for our game in two days time, I wanted to create some concepts for logos. To start with, I asked the director (Sam) what games or ideas we are thinking of. One game that was specifically a good one to look at was BAD END THEATER (NomnomNami 2021). The motif of theatre masks was something that was a big highlight, and something that I plan to use for the logo design.
With this idea, I now began to create a moodboard using theatre masks that interested me, or even related to the themes of the game.

After discussing it with the director again, I chose to opt for a simpler design, like in the top row. This is because it is easier on the eyes and is more easily distinguishable from other mask designs.
These were the initial designs, but these looked too serious and almost scary, so I scrapped them.

I then experimented with a less realistic face, and ended up with a design I really liked.

I started with something like this. Upon consulting the team, and receiving some feedback, it turned into this.
I wanted to make it look more mischievous, so I added the horns. I also made the facial balance better and easier to read for facial features. I then actually lined it.
This is the first design, and after some tweaks with the group, we ended on a final design that stands out and that we all liked.
