Industry Practice - Session 3: Game Ideation

Industry Practice - Session 3: Game Ideation

This week we did a game jam, where we spoke about various elements of the game. These included:

HIGH LEVEL NARRATIVE SUMMARY:
target audience (14+)
Subject of the narrative (mental health)
how the narrative explores the brief (exploring different struggles and ways different characters deal with their things, as well as potential solutions)
What mechanics will be utilised to progress the narrative through gameplay (playing the role as a therapist, exploring the memories of patients and getting them to open up about their struggles)
Can the game be won (there will be different endings, but no fail state)

LIST ENVIRONMENT ASSETS:
major locations/levels (takes place mostly in the therapist room, elements change within the therapist room as the player progresses, also takes place within the memories of all the characters)

LIST CHARACTER ASSETS:
Who are the people (the main character is a therapist, the other 5 major characters are patients who the therapist helps. The therapist is simple, and the patients will have more depth with their own struggles.)
We have a pretty realistic amount of characters to work with right now, considering the therapist is not going to have any art.)

REFINE PLOT OVERVIEW:
Story (The story will be told through the eyes of the therapist, helping the characters over the course of the game.)
who is the narrator (the therapist.)
Choices. (The player is able to help the characters through their struggles, but wrong moves can make the characters grow more distant.)

FILE SHARING + MEETINGS:
Our next meeting will be next week, and we will be making notes and seeing how we are all getting on.

After this, I completed an initial sketch of my design, using my research so far and my moodboard.
